Sam Raimi's Evil Dead Coming Back to Theaters Next Year!

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
Hey, it's Halloween! So how about some of the best damn horror news you'll hear all year long? Grindhouse Releasing is bringing Sam Raimi's original horror classic The Evil Dead back to the big screen next year as a midnight movie. Raimi and producers Robert Tapert and Bruce Campbell gave the go-ahead for a series of Evil Dead revival screenings taking place around the nation starting early next year. "Nothing can prepare an audience for what they are about to see, because nothing punishes an audience like Evil Dead - especially on the big screen," Bruce Campbell said. "I'm really glad it's back. People are gonna be hurt." Oh hell yes!

A special screening of the Evil Dead trilogy sold out L.A.'s New Beverly Cinema this summer (I was there!). With a remake reportedly in the works, this theatrical release gives fans a chance to experience the original as it was ...

Watch This: International Trailer for Matt Damon's Green Zone

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
You may have already seen this, but if not, here's your chance. If you have, well, watch it again. Earlier this week the official trailer for Paul Greengrass' Green Zone starring Matt Damon hit the web. It was a great trailer but most people complained that it looked too much like another Bourne movie. Later that same day an international version of the Green Zone trailer hit MSN. It's a different trailer that presents the story in a more coherent and progressive way. It still looks a bit like another Bourne movie, but it's actually a better trailer than the first. Knowing even more of the story, I'm actually more excited to see this. So check it out!

Watch the international trailer for Paul Greengrass' Green Zone:

New Sherlock Holmes Facebook Viral Game Launches Online

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
I'm not entirely sure if this is connected with the "Widen your gaze Mr. Holmes" mini-viral from August, however, I get the feeling that this is the next step in that game. Earlier today I received an email in my inbox with a telegram saying: "London seethes with crime -- STOP -- find your partner upon whom you will rely -- STOP -- evidence secured for your advance assessment -- STOP -- the game is afoot -- STOP -- make all haste to 221B now." It then linked to a site located at 221B.sh where users can visit and participate in a viral game on Facebook for the upcoming Sherlock Holmes movie. It's not amazing, but it is a lot of fun.

To play you need to be on Facebook and you must login with your Facebook account. 221B is a two-player game immersing you into the world of Sherlock Holmes ...

Early Best Picture Predictions: Invictus & Hurt Locker Lead

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
I know we've still got a good two months left in the year and most of the heavy-hitting films haven't even been seen by anyone yet, but it's never too early to talk about the Oscars. Over the past week, Tom O'Neil of the LA Times' Gold Derby blog polled some 16 Oscar pundits and film critics to get an early pulse on what they think are top contenders right now for Best Picture. Those polled include well-known film critics like Erik Davis, Pete Hammond, Peter Travers, Jeff Wells, and Susan Wloszczyna. And the list of their top picks might not exactly be what you're expecting. Or maybe it is? Read on for their picks and to tell us your own!

The two films that are leading the race, according to these 16 people, are Kathryn Bigelow's The Hurt Locker and Clint Eastwood's Invictus. Both of those films got a nod ...

Stephen L'Heureux on Sin City 2 , Hard Boiled

Posted on 17:00 by Unknown
Comics2Film at Mania.com got a chance to talk to producer Stephen L'Heureux about Sin City 2 and Hard Boiled .

L'Heureux told the site that the Sin City sequel will go into production in the second half of 2010. The sequel will be based on an original script by Frank Miller, who will again co-directed with Robert Rodriguez.

The producer added that Miller is working on the screenplay for Hard Boiled , based on his and Geof Darrow's comic about an insurance investigator-turned-cyborg assassin. Miller is attached to direct the adaptation.

Because Sin City 2 will take up Miller's time for a while, Hard Boiled could take a while to hit theaters. "There's also talk, of course, of 'Sin City 3'," he said.

Orson Welles' Original War of the Worlds Broadcast Returns

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
With our society's extensive use of the internet, viral marketing has become an invaluable tool for movie marketing. In recent years I think it's safe to say The Dark Knight is the reigning champion for best viral marketing campaign which inspired activity from people all over the world. However, the greatest publicity stunt ever achieved goes all the way back to 1938, when Orson Welles' radio broadcast of H.G. Wells novel War of the Worlds created unparalleled panic and fear of a real alien invasion. Now, exactly 71 years later, the broadcast will return as a live stream brought to you by the upcoming film Me and Orson Wells.

The original broadcast aired as an episode of the American radio drama anthology series Mercury Theatre on the Air as part of their Halloween show. The first two thirds of the 60-minute broadcast were presented as a series of simulated news bulletins, which suggested ...

Don Cheadle & Brendan Gleeson Play Good Cop, Bad Cop in The Guard

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
Many times when a film based in the world of a police department, FBI agency or other law enforcement organization comes along, there's the standard confrontation between an unconventional, off-the-leash lawman clashing with a by-the-book, oh so serious counterpart. While this has become a dishearteningly predictable element of crime based films, what really makes or breaks films like this is the casting. In this case, I might be willing to allow cliche characters in favor of great casting as Brendan Gleeson and Don Cheadle have been cast as unlikely partners in director John Michael McDonagh's new film The Guard.

Gleeson plays Sergeant Gerry Boyle, a small-town Irish cop with a confrontational personality, a subversive sense of humor, a dying mother, a fondness for prostitutes, and absolutely no interest whatsoever in the international cocaine-smuggling ring that has brought straight-laced FBI agent Wendell Everett (Cheadle) to his door. However, mocking and undermining Everett's uptight ...

Must Watch: Great Trailer for John Lennon Biopic Nowhere Boy

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
I didn't expect we'd see a trailer for this film this quickly, but alas, here it is. The first trailer for Sam Taylor-Wood's Nowhere Boy, the biopic about a young John Lennon, has debuted on YouTube (via The Playlist). This actually looks fantastic, even better than I was expecting. It definitely seems like Taylor-Wood made the right choice picking Aaron Johnson to play Lennon and I'm also impressed by how quickly the young Thomas Sangster has grown up. He looks a lot older in this as Paul McCartney than he did in Love Actually. Whether you're a fan of The Beatles or not, I suggest you watch this trailer anyway. You'll find it below!

Peter Berg is Off of Dune; Paramount Wants Neill Blomkamp

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
As we've known for at least a year, Paramount has been trying to develop another take on Frank Herbert's seminal sci-fi classic Dune, originally attaching The Kingdom director Peter Berg. Since then, we've heard off and on from Berg, including this most recent update from September where he revealed that it would be a PG-13 "massive epic," which was a step in the right direction. Movie blog Pajiba is now reporting that Berg has left the project and "his Film 44 production company backed out." Now Paramount is scrambling to find a new director." According to them, District 9's Neill Blomkamp is one of only two alternatives.

The first question is why this blog would be reporting on Dune. Well, apparently there was a rumor in the summer that Robert Pattinson (ugh) was being considered for one of the lead roles, and they confirmed in their update that this stemmed from ...

Must Watch: Official Trailer for Paul Greengrass' Green Zone

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
After delaying the release for a few months, Universal has finally debuted the first official trailer for Green Zone, directed by Paul Greengrass and starring Matt Damon, Jason Isaacs, Greg Kinnear, Brendan Gleeson, and Amy Ryan. This is the first we've heard about this project since the first photo arrived last July. And surprisingly it looks a lot better than I was expecting. I guess I should trust in Paul Greengrass - he usually always delivers a solid action film, especially when paired with Matt Damon (hint, hint). Anyway, this trailer has now made Green Zone one of my most anticipated movies to see next March, so be sure to check it out!

Tom Cruise Potentially Reteaming with John Woo for Flying Tigers

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
John Woo's new World War II film Flying Tigers has been in the works for some time now. The fighter squadron story emerged last December when it was part of a trio of projects that Tom Cruise was circling. Since then John Woo announced that he was making the Christopher McQuarrie and Mason Alley scripted picture his next project, but there's been no further updates. Now that all changes in a packed story from Variety about New Regency's upcoming projects, we almost missed the brief mention that Tom Cruise is attached to Flying Tigers, marking his grand return to the cockpit for the first time since 1986's Top Gun.

ComingSoon also caught up with Woo recently and here's what he had to say about Flying Tigers:

"It's based on a true story in WWII, about a group of American volunteer fighter pilots who worked with the Chinese Air Force fighting with the Japanese and ...

Ricky Gervais to Host the 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
British comedian Ricky Gervais is no stranger to laughter, making his way from the hit BBC series "The Office" all the way to leading roles in films like Ghost Town and more recently The Invention of Lying (you can check out Brandon's review here). Now Gervais will finally get a job that I've been hoping he'd get for a few years now, as he's been named the host of the 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards, which will be broadcast live on the evening of January 17th, 2010 on NBC. This marks the first time that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's yearly gala has had a real host since 1995! No pressure whatsoever, Mr. Gervais.

I've wanted to Gervais to host a gig like this for some time now because whenever he's presented at these awards shows, he brings a motherload of hilarity (click either of those for examples). Apparently he's been asked ...

Finally, An Official Theatrical Sherlock Holmes Poster Appears

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
Finally! I say that because Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes hits theaters in two months and we haven't seen a real poster besides the character one-sheets released in June and the never-used one from ShoWest. I was hoping I'd be able to say they fixed the proportions of Robert Downey Jr's head on this new poster (via Cinematical), but I was wrong, as his head on this poster looks just as weird as it did before. Besides that though, I'm digging the style of this, especially with all the other "trinkets" along the sides. Although I'm not sure about that tagline either: "Holmes for the Holiday." Really? That's the best they could come up with?

Detective Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.) and his stalwart partner Dr. Watson (Jude Law) engage in a battle of wits and brawn with a mystical occult evil nemesis whose plot is a threat to all of England.

Sherlock ...

Paranormal Activity Scares Its Way to #1!

Posted on 17:00 by Unknown
The ComingSoon.net Box Office Report has been updated with studio estimates for the weekend. Click here for the full box office estimates of the top 12 films and then check back on Monday for the final figures based on actual box office.

With weeks of viral marketing and a promotional campaign driven by social networks like Twitter and Facebook behind it, Oren Eli's Paranormal Activity (Paramount) expanded into just under 2,000 theaters on Friday and successfully took the box office with an estimated $22 million and an astounding cumulative gross of $62.5 million after less than a month in theaters. It's surely going to be considered one of the memorable phenomena of 2009, having cost less than $15,000 to produce, the rights sold to Paramount for roughly $300,000 and then...

Might We See Paranormal Activity 2 ?

Posted on 17:00 by Unknown
After its one month climb to the top of the box office, culminating in its first weekend at #1 with $22 million, Oren Peli's Paranormal Activity is clearly a box office phenomenon, a point driven home by the subsequent failure of Saw VI to replicate the success of the previous five installments of the successful horror franchise. The Lionsgate mainstay opened in second place this weekend with $14.8 million, less than half the opening of the previous four movies.

Not surprisingly, the L.A. Times is now reporting that Paramount already owns the worldwide rights to make a sequel to the surprise hit, and the company's chairman Brad Grey tells them that they're "looking to see if that makes some sense."

The article, which you can read here , is a good recap of the...

Indie Trailer Sunday: Hal Holbrook in That Evening Sun Trailer

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
Earlier this week I was introduced to a small genre of film that I didn't know existed - Southern Gothic. If you're unsure of what exactly that means, like I was at first, just check out this trailer and you'll completely understand. Russ from SlashFilm recently pointed out this trailer for That Evening Sun that stars Hal Holbrook, Ray McKinnon, and Mia Wasikowska (who plays Alice in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland). It looks like Hal Holbrook can still deliver an oustanding performance. I was moved by his work in Into the Wild and it looks like this will be great thanks to him as well. Anyway, I've said enough, just watch this.

Shane Black Writing a Doc Savage Script for Kurtzman/Orci

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
Anyone a big fan of the 1930's pulp comics character Doc Savage created by Henry W. Ralston? According to Ain't It Cool News, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang screenwriter Shane Black will be writing a Doc Savage script for Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman (Eagle Eye, Star Trek) to produce. Harry Knowles ran into Shane at a party recently in Austin and was told by Black that "he is preparing to write the script." Apparently a Doc Savage movie has been in development for a long time without much real progress, but with Black on-board working on a new screenplay, and with Kurtzman/Orci producing, it may actually get somewhere this time.

Harry also asked Black if they were modernizing the character. Shane's response was that "the character can not be separated from the 30s." He also added that, "he has decided that Doc needs to have his Fabulous Five. It will be ...

Stallone is Going to Make Rocky 7 After Finishing Rambo 5

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
Damn you Sly Stallone! There's a story making its way around the web right now that features a few new quotes from Sylvester Stallone that say that he just announced that he'll be going back to playing Rocky Balboa yet again in Rocky 7. Apparently Stallone was talking with Tele 5 in Germany and the quotes ended up online at places like TeenSay.co.uk (via SlashFilm). We already know that Sly is now finishing up The Expendables, due for release next August, and got a greenlight from Nu Image to make Rambo 5 next year. If all this is to be believed, then he'll follow that up yet with Rocky 7, presumably in late 2010 or early 2011.

"I know I'll probably make a fool of myself if I make another 'Rocky' film after turning 60."

"I also know there's gonna be a lot of criticism. Even my wife says, 'Don't do it. ...

Mad Max 4: Fury Road Confirmed, Budget of $100 Million!

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
This is the weekend that Mad Max is making its return. Yesterday morning a rumor hit saying that Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy were director George Miller's top choices to star in Mad Max 4. Later in the day, THR published a story confirming that Mad Max 4, now officially titled Fury Road, was actually already ready to go into production in Sydney and in New South Wales next year. They did not confirm any of the actors, but did mention that the budget would be close to $100 million, despite having no studio funding or backing for the project. That is some impressive indie financing. Obviously the locals rule in Australia.

One of the local papers has a few quotes from Miller saying that Fury Road will put New South Wales back on the map as a filmmaking destination. "The Mad Max films are iconic," NSW Premier Rees said. "In ...

James Bond 23 to Start Filming End of 2010

Posted on 17:00 by Unknown
CommanderBond.net alerted us to a video in which Daniel Craig says that James Bond 23 will start filming at the end of 2010. The star was asked about the next film as he exited the stage door for "A Steady Rain," a Broadway play he is currently performing in with Hugh Jackman. As you can see in the video below right before the one-minute mark, Craig says "We start at the end of next year."

It will be the third 007 installment starring Craig. His previous two films, Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace , earned $594 million and $586 million, respectively, at the worldwide box office.

Peter Morgan, Neal Purvis and Robert Wade are writing the script for the 23rd film, which does not have a director attached yet.

Rumor: DiCaprio & Maguire Are Remaking The Third Man?

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
Another rumor to chew over this fine Friday afternoon. CHUD is reporting that Canal+ from France is gearing up to remake Carol Reed's 1949 classic The Third Man that starred Orson Welles and Bernard Lee. Apparently none other than Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire are already cast and helping develop the project. While they say it doesn't have a director yet, the screenplay is being written by Steven Knight, of Dirty Pretty Things and Eastern Promises. Sounds like a lot of great talent, but of course, is a remake of The Third Man even necessary or desired? It's a true noir classic that really can't be topped.

The Third Man is a noir mystery set in Austria's capital city Vienna, devastated and recovering from the World War II. An American pulp writer arrives in Vienna only to find that the friend who waited for him is killed under mysterious circumstances. The ...

Mastodon Explains How Exactly They Came to Score Jonah Hex

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
Do you remember the news that heavy metal band Mastodon would be scoring the Jonah Hex movie? Yea, I'm still a bit bewildered by that, but it's being cleared up today, finally. Paste (via SlashFilm) just did an interview with Mastodon recently and got the full story, including that they're not dropping any all-out heavy metal tracks into the movie, but rather recording instrumental songs that will be integrated into the score, similar to how Linkin Park worked with Steve Jablonsky for the Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen score. It's actually kind of fascinating to hear and I'm much more excited to hear their score knowing this.

The story is that Jonah Hex director Jimmy Hayward called up Mastodon saying he is a huge fan and that it was their album Blood Mountain that inspired him while writing the script. The band came to LA following their European tour and recorded ...

Does Dylan Baker's Return to Spider-Man Mean We'll See Lizard?

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
Don't read too much into this, but actor Dylan Baker confirmed at a Q&A for a Trick 'r Treat screening in New York City last night that he would indeed be returning for Spider-Man 4. UGO has the scoop and says that apparently Trick 'r Treat director Mike Dougherty and Baker were joking a lot during the Q&A, which doesn't necessarily mean that this is a joke. "According to reports, Baker said that he had just gotten his first call concerning Spider-Man 4 that very day." So if Baker, who played Dr. Curt Connors in both Spider-Man 2 and 3, is back, does that mean we may finally see him become the villain The Lizard in Spider-Man 4?

Ever since Dr. Connors showed up in Spider-Man 2, missing an arm exactly like his character should, I've been hoping we'd see him turn into The Lizard, preferably sooner than later. I think ...

Official Poster for Clint Eastwood's Invictus Finally Debuts

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
Can Warner Brothers repeat the success of Gran Torino twice? Yahoo has debuted the official poster for Clint Eastwood's Invictus, which stars Morgan Freeman as Nelson Mandela and Matt Damon as rugby player Francois Pienaar. We're not sure when the first trailer will hit (probably later this week), but I'm just as excited to see this poster, mainly because Invictus is the last big Oscar wildcard. Most Oscar pundits are saying that Invictus might end up the big Best Picture winner, but they're saying that without having seen a single frame of footage. This poster looks great, so at least they're off to a good start. Check it out below!

Follows Nelson Mandela after the fall of apartheid in South Africa and during his first term as president when he campaigned to host the 1995 Rugby World Cup game as an opportunity to unite his countrymen.

TMNT Global Rights Picked Up By Nickelodeon/Paramount

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
It was announced this morning that Nickelodeon has acquired global rights to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise from The Mirage Group / 4Kids Entertainment for roughly $60 million. Nickelodeon also announced plans to develop a new CG-animated television series based on the popular superhero franchise, anticipated to premiere in 2012. Additionally, in partnership with Viacom's Paramount Pictures, a release of a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles feature film is also planned for 2012. New Line previously released the originally three live-action TMNT films and Warner Brothers released the recent CGI movie from 2007.

"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a property that maintains a very passionate global fan base, is rich with opportunity for a tentpole movie, and is exactly the right property for us to work together with Nickelodeon," said Adam Goodman, President, Paramount Pictures.

Must Watch: Second Trailer for Joe Johnston's The Wolfman!

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
Just in time for Halloween, Universal has debuted a second new trailer for Joe Johnston's The Wolfman on Apple. This trailer is considerably different from the first trailer from July, featuring less dialogue, one contemporary rock song running throughout, and a focus more on the monster and the intensity (and less on the story). I just really hope this is going to be rated R in the end, because after watching this trailer, I want as intense of a frickin' Wolfman movie as I can get. Considering I've loved just about every movie that Hugo Weaving has been in as well, I expect to love this one, too. Anyway, check out the new trailer below!

New Full-Length TV Trailer for Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
We haven't really seen new footage from Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes since the first trailer debuted way back in May, but that changes today. TheMovieBox has premiered a new TV trailer for Sherlock Holmes (as in, shown on TV, not in theaters). It's two minutes long and it definitely contains a lot of great footage we haven't seen before. The closer we get to December, the more excited I get for this. And this new trailer definitely gets my blood pumpin'. It looks like it has a great mix of action and intensity as well as comedy. Warner Brothers may have the next Pirates of the Caribbean on their hands! Check out the trailer below.

Willem Dafoe is Playing a 9-Foot Tall Alien in John Carter of Mars

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
We've known that Willem Dafoe had been cast in Andrew Stanton's John Carter of Mars since July, so that's not the news here today, but the actor talked with both AICN and MTV recently and revealed a lot of interesting details about his character and the project. While the debate over whether James Cameron's Avatar will be a success or not still wages on, it seems the movie has already inspired other big Hollywood productions, including this one. Without seeing anything it's hard to know exactly what it'll look like, but it sounds like Stanton is working on the next Avatar-like sci-fi epic with 9-foot tall aliens and CGI characters.

John Carter of Mars is currently scheduled to start shooting next January, so Dafoe doesn't know much about it yet, but he is "very excited" and he has "seen renderings" of his character. Dafoe is playing Tars Tarkas, a leader of ...

The trailer, which clocks in at roughly around 3 minutes and 30 seconds, won't be coming online until October 29th. You should really see this in theaters anyways as we've learned that this is THE trailer, the one that will show you much more story (as opposed to the teaser trailer previously released).

Opening in conventional 3D theaters and IMAX 3D on December 18th, the live action movie with a new generation of special effects stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Rodriguez, Giovanni Ribisi, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Peter Mensah, Laz Alonso, Wes Studi, Stephen Lang and Matt Gerald.

First Photos of Amber Heard in John Carpenter's The Ward

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
After roughly eight years, John Carpenter is finally back to directing once again. His newest film, The Ward, stars Amber Heard, Danielle Panabaker, Lyndsy Fonseca, and a few other young actresses, and is a psychological thriller set in a mental institution. Over on the Premiere Picture website (via Dread Central), a few new photos and a bit of early artwork for The Ward have popped up. Considering we've seen nothing from this yet and it is John Carpenter's long-awaited return to directing, I thought I'd feature these photos, which actually look pretty cool. The ghost looks damn creepy, too. They're not much, but still take a look.

The Ward is an intense psychological thriller set in a mental institution where a young woman, Kristen (Amber Heard) is haunted by a mysterious and deadly ghost. As danger creeps closer, she comes to realize that this ghost might be darker than she could ...

Must Read: New Yorker's Phenomenal Profile on James Cameron

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
I just finished reading, perhaps, the best article about the career and life of James Cameron that I have ever read. The New Yorker just published their epic (12 pages long - fitting for Cameron) profile on the filmmaker, detailing his early life and early career, from Terminator to The Abyss, his five wives (there are some funny stories in that section), to what he's been doing the last 10 years (scuba diving, developing 3D cameras, etc), and of course, all about Avatar and its development. Dana Goodyear spent more than a year writing this profile and it's this kind of awe-inspiring film journalism that I admire more than anything.

There's nothing more I can do than suggest that you drop whatever it is you're reading and head over to The New Yorker and start working your way through this epic profile yourself. Not only is inspiring, but it's often times ...

Indie Trailer Sunday: Stop-Animated Indie 'Mary and Max'

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
I'm excited today to feature the newest official trailer (via New York Times) for Adam Elliot's Mary and Max, an incredibly unique and original stop animated film from Australia. You may remember hearing the name before, as this was the Opening Night film at Sundance this year (read my thoughts on it), where it gained a lot of acclaim, but never got picked up. The more I think back to it, the more I remember loving it. Watching this trailer again especially reminds me that it's one of those great indies that you've never seen anything like and probably won't see again. So without further ado, check out the Mary and Max trailer.

Watch the official trailer for Adam Elliot's Mary and Max:

Lee Daniels Wants to Bring Miss Saigon to the Big Screen Soon

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
Lee Daniels is another name that most of you probably don't know yet, although we're hoping to change that by February next year. If you've seen the trailers or heard about the film Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire, that's the film that Lee Daniels most recently directed. I have a good feeling that if everything stays the same, not only will we see Precious getting a Best Picture nomination, but I expect Lee Daniels will be nominated as well. Anyway, our friends at ComingSoon asked Daniels what he's planning to do next and he revealed that he's interested in bringing the stage musical Miss Saigon to the big screen.

ComingSoon didn't publish any exact quotes from Daniels, but they say "if it happens," he's got "thoughts about directing a movie based on the hit musical Miss Saigon." The show first hit the West End in London back in ...

Star Trek Scribes Talk Sequel

Posted on 17:00 by Unknown
Star Trek was one of this year's biggest movies and left fans eagerly wanting more. Unfortunately, it looks like audiences will have to wait a few more years for the sequel to hit theaters.

At the 2009 Screenwriting Expo which is being held in downtown Los Angeles this year, ComingSoon.net asked Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, the writers of Star Trek , if they could give us any updated info as to where the storyline will be going in the next film. While they're still very much in the beginning stages and couldn't give us many details, they did give a possible release date year.

"We're rereading some of our favorite 'Star Trek' novels now and watching the original series again. The honest answer is we don't know yet," Orci said. "We think it's going to be a...

Exclusive: Lee Daniels Looking To Tackle Miss Saigon

Posted on 17:00 by Unknown
Having directed Precious: Based on the Novel "Push" by Sapphire , one of the most buzzed about movies on the festival circuit this year, the world is clearly Lee Daniels' oyster even before the movie has received its theatrical release and he's already thinking about what to tackle next with two specific projects in mind.

The one that's likely to get the most immediate interest (if it happens) is Daniels' thoughts about directing a movie based on the hit musical Miss Saigon . Written by Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boublil, the musical set in Southeast Asia premiered in London's West End before opening on Broadway where it would run for ten years and 4,062 performances, making it the tenth-longest running musical in Broadway history. (It also won three Tony awards.)...

Rumor: Jackie Earle Haley as Sinestro in Green Lantern?

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
He's played Rorschach and Freddy Krueger, now he'll play Sinestro in Green Lantern?! Unless you're a Green Lantern fan, you probably don't know who Sinestro is, but we'll explain all that. AICN is reporting a rumor (take this with a grain of salt) that actor Jackie Earle Haley has been cast as Sinestro, the lead villain, in the Green Lantern movie being directed by Martin Campbell and co-starring Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan. Not only that, but they say that Superman has a cameo in it as well (the character, not Brandon Routh). Though I'm not sure if I can believe all this yet. If it's true, then this is some seriously great casting.

AICN says their source is "someone working on the film," meaning it's legit, but I'm going to wait to hear it from Warner Brothers or Haley himself before calling it confirmed casting. So who is Sinestro? Sinestro ...

Sound Off: Where the Wild Things Are - What Did You Think?

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
Now that you've seen it, what did you think? This is a movie that has been anxiously anticipated by moviegoers for a very long time. Spike Jonze's Where the Wild Things Are, a beautiful adaptation of Maurice Sendak's beloved children's book, finally hits theaters everywhere this weekend, so without further ado, let the wild rumpus start! After waiting this long, though, is it any good? Is it as amazing as the trailers have made it look? Is there even a good story since there wasn't much of one in the book? What did you think? Sound off below, leave a comment, and let us know what you thought of Where the Wild Things Are!

To fuel the fire, while I did enjoy Where the Wild Things Are quite a bit, and I do still think Spike Jonze is an absolutely brilliant filmmaker, it's not my favorite film of the year. In ...

Sam Raimi Wants to 'Get Back to the Basics' on Spider-Man 4

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
It's amazing how far some quotes can get, but this time these quotes deserve to be seen. Director Sam Raimi recently talked with the print edition of DVD & Blu-Ray Review (via Coventry Telegraph) about his plans for Spider-Man 4 and, more importantly, what went wrong on Spider-Man 3 (and how he won't be making those mistakes again). With Raimi returning for the fourth movie (due out in 2011), fans are a bit worried that he's going to screw it up again (even though I don't blame Raimi for the problems). Thankfully it sounds like he knows what went wrong and is already planning not to let this next one get out of hand.

One of the biggest complaints about Spider-Man 3 was that it had too many villains (counting Black Spidey, it had four total) and was overcrowded, causing the story to suffer. When asked about this, Raimi admitted that ...

Ridley Scott Remaking UK's Red Riding Trilogy for Columbia

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
Columbia Pictures announced earlier today via Variety that they've acquired remake rights to the UK TV mini-series known as Red Riding, a trilogy of feature films that have been playing the festival circuit this year. The studio is "negotiating" with Steve Zaillian (Gangs of New York, American Gangster) to write the script and Ridley Scott (Gladiator, American Gangster, Body of Lies) to direct. Zaillian has already been working with Columbia, as he was hired to rewrite the Steven Soderbergh Moneyball script. Both Scott and Zaillian will produce the remake along with Andrew Eaton of Revolutionary Films, who produced the mini.

Alright, so I saw part one of the Red Riding trilogy at the Telluride Film Festival back in September. It's titled 1974 and stars the very talented Andrew Garfield, however, I hated it. I disliked it so much that I walked out of it after the first film and didn't even ...

Clive Owen & Catherine Keener 'Trust' in David Schwimmer

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
After leaving behind his past as Ross from NBC's sitcom "Friends," David Schwimmer made a jump behind the camera directing such comedic fare as Run, Fatboy, Run with Simon Pegg and episodes of HBO's series "Little Britain USA." Though his success as a director hasn't been stellar, he's certainly no Uwe Boll. Now Schwimmer has a new task ahead of him as Variety reports that Schwimmer is now taking the leap into darker waters as he will direct Clive Owen (The International) and Catherine Keener (Where the Wild Things Are) in Trust, a dark drama about the damaging effects an online sexual predator has on a family.

Owen and Keener will play the parents of a 14-year-old girl who are shaken to the core when they discover that she has been victimized by an adult who gained her trust posing as a teenager on a chat room. Trust will mark the acting ...

Watch This: Trailer for Carla Gugino's Women in Trouble

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
Screen Media has debuted the official trailer for Women in Trouble starring the lovely Carla Gugino over on Apple. If you don't know what this is, Women in Trouble is an ensemble film about 10 women and the trouble in their lives. But these aren't ordinary women: they're strippers and call girls. Carla Gugino plays real life porn star Elektra Luxx. She's joined by other beauties including Emmanuelle Chriqui, Adrianne Palicki, Marley Shelton, and Connie Britton, and flanked by a few guys like Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Simon Baker. As sexy as this is, it kind of looks straight-to-DVD quality, but I'm still interested in checking it out.

Chris Pine Might Be the Next Jack Ryan for Franchise Reboot

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
After Chris Pine's breakthrough performance in this summer's Star Trek, the young actor has become quite the hot commodity. It looks like Paramount is the studio who will be keeping Pine busy as he's already locked in for Tony Scott's runaway train action-thriller Unstoppable (which is actually at Fox) and was also just added to D.J. Caruso's next project The Art of Making Money, a new Paramount project. Now we can add one more to the list as Variety reports that Pine is in serious negotiations to step into the role of CIA analyst Jack Ryan, in a reboot of the franchise based on Tom Clancy's series of political-thriller novels.

While talks have only recently begun, Paramount expects Pine to officially join the project as it comes to fruition. "The studio and producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mace Neufeld are working with a script draft by Hossein Amini, based on an original ...

UPDATE: Ian McKellen Gives Hobbit Update

Posted on 17:00 by Unknown
Empire magazine talked to Sir Ian McKellen about reprising Gandalf in The Hobbit and it's sequel . Here's the update he gave about the Guillermo del Toro-directed films:

"The scripts for the two films will be delivered very soon," he revealed. "Then they'll be budgeted, and then they'll be cast. And they'll be going when they've always said they would be, which is next spring – March or April. Guillermo even told me at one point, 'We're going to film for 383 days.' He's got that artistic autism! Jackson's the same; they're very, very, very alike. They also very different, but they've so much in common. They both can't stand Hollywood and have wonderful imaginations, and they're both obsessed with gore and fantasy. Both of them laugh a great deal. Guillermo's...

Sir Ian McKellen Gives an Update on The Hobbit & Magneto

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
It's always great to hear updates from Sir Ian McKellen on anything and everything. Empire just caught up with him at the San Sebastian Film Festival recently and asked him about two big projects: The Hobbit and X-Men Origins: Magneto. Before we get on to Hobbit, where he had more to say, McKellen said this about Magneto: “There's meant to be a Magneto script floating around, but I've not read it, so I suspect it wouldn't involve me." McKellen also joked that "they can't have someone whose face is as lined as mine any longer" since it'll focus on a young Magneto, as we already know. Let's move on to his other big project!

"The scripts for the two films will be delivered very soon," McKellen said about The Hobbit. "Then they'll be budgeted, and then they'll be cast. And they'll be going when they've always said they would be, which ...

Worth Watching: Trailer for Joseph Gordon-Levitt's Uncertainty

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
I hadn't heard of this film before today, but it actually looks pretty good. Uncertainty is co-directed by Scott McGehee and David Siegel and stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt (from 500 Days of Summer), Lynn Collins (from Wolverine), and Olivia Thirlby (from Juno). That cast alone is enough to convince me to see this, but you have to check out the trailer as well. I can't tell if this is some sort of cell phone thriller, about a big turning point in their relationship, or about a girl trying to come out of the closet. I'm hoping it will all make more sense once I actually see it. Thanks to MSN for debuting the trailer today. You can check it out below.

Sam Raimi's World of Warcraft Movie Finds a Screenwriter

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
In July the MMORPG nerd collective all shared a shocking experience. No, they didn't lose their virginity, and no the Warcraft servers weren't down, but it was announced that Sam Raimi (Evil Dead, Spider-Man) would be at the helm of the adaptation of the popular, life-consuming game World of Warcraft. However, nothing else substantial has come from Legendary Pictures, Warner Brothers, Atlas Entertainment or even Blizzard Entertainment to show how exactly they were progressing. MTV reports today that Raimi himself has confirmed that Saving Private Ryan screenwriter Robert Rodat is on board to write the screenplay.

Here's what Raimi told MTV about how they're approaching the story in this big World of Warcraft movie:

"We want to be really faithful to the game. We would have our writer... really craft an original story within that world that feels like a 'World of Warcraft' adventure. Only obviously it's very different 'cause it's expanded and translated ...

Gary Ross May Take on Matt Helm Before Directing Venom

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
Back in July there were some rumblings about Steven Spielberg directing a film called Matt Helm, the story of a pulp-fiction swinging spy but without all the Austin Powers parody humor. The writing/producing team of Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman were pushing the Paul Attanasio adaptation of Donald Hamilton's 27-book-series, but when Spielberg took Dreamworks from Paramount, executives weren't too keen on giving him Matt Helm. Now it looks like the project has life again as The Playlist reports writer/director Gary Ross might end up directing Matt Helm even before he jumps into the Marvel universe with Venom.

Apparently their sources say that Venom isn't exactly being fast-tracked and Matt Helm is being scheduled to shoot in the summer of 2010 if everything falls into place. The Playlist also mentions that Bradley Cooper is on the top of the list to take on the titular role after George Clooney (who this was originally ...

Couples Retreat Enjoys Holiday in the Box Office Sun

Posted on 17:00 by Unknown
The ComingSoon.net Box Office Report has been updated with studio estimates for the weekend. Click here for the full box office estimates of the top 12 films and then check back on Monday for the final figures based on actual box office.

After Martin Scorsese's thriller Shutter Island was pushed back to 2010, there was a shake-up in the October release schedule, which ended up leaving Vince Vaughn's tropical vacation comedy Couples Retreat as the only wide release, and it certainly paid off, as the movie opened with an estimated $35.3 million this weekend in 3,000 theaters, making it the sixth biggest opener for the month. Despite horrendous reviews, audiences were looking for laughs and the $70 million budget comedy brought together a strong ensemble comedy cast, not only...

Bryan Singer Still Considering a Return to the X-Men Franchise

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
This isn't the first time we've heard this, but the Hollywood Reporter finally talked with director Bryan Singer in person and got him to open up about a return to the big screen X-Men franchise that he created. As we all know, Fox is trying to develop quite a few X-Men spin-offs, prequels, and sequels, including X-Men: First Class, X-Men Origins: Magneto, the Wolverine sequel, and Deadpool. Back in June, Singer was quoted as saying he'd "love to return to that universe," meaning the comic book universe. In August, hidden in a Variety story, they hinted that Singer "has been flirting with directing X-Men: First Class."

Now Singer admits that he's "still looking to possibly [return] to the X-Men franchise." "I've been talking to Fox about it," Singer said at South Korea's Pusan International Film Festival. "I love Hugh Jackman. I love the cast." He didn't say much else, but did ...

Best Animated Feature Category Might Have Five Nominees

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
Even though we're not an Oscar blog, that doesn't mean I don't like to occasionally talk about awards buzz. One category of the Oscars that I'm always nervous about is the Best Animated Feature Film category, which usually (and deservedly) ends up going to the latest Pixar feature (which it should this year too), but occasionally ends up going to someone else (like when Wallace & Gromit or Happy Feet won). The category has usually featured only three nominees, but word is that might finally be bumped up to five this year. It's not due to a change in rules, it's simply that there are enough animated movies to allow for five nominees.

Here are what the Academy rules state for the Best Animated Feature Film category:

"If there are 8 to 15 qualified animated features it triggers the category in any given year, and if there are 16 or more the ...

Original Song from Up in the Air Disqualified from the Oscars

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
Why does this seem to happen every year? Steve Pond over at The Wrap reports that the song titled "Up in the Air" that plays in Jason Reitman's new film Up in the Air will most likely not end up getting Oscar consideration (even though it deserves it) because of some ridiculous rules that are a part of the Original Song category. Since most people haven't seen Up in the Air yet, the song plays in the end credits second half. It was written by Kevin Renick, a St. Louis musician who gave Reitman the song on a cassette tape after a Q&A. He had written it when he lost his job and it fit perfectly in the film and Jason decided to use it.

You may remember last year during Oscar season there were a few big controversies in various music categories. First, The Dark Knight score encountered problems because ...

Check These Out: All Five Character Posters for Toy Story 3

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
As expected, Disney has released four more posters to make a total of five new characters posters for Toy Story 3 this weekend. The trailer arrives online officially on Monday - stay tuned to see it then. It's exciting to see the whole gang back again on the big screen. Although I think we're missing some key characters like Woody's horse Bullseye, Mr. Potato Head, and Slinky, his dog. Don't fear though, they are all in the trailer. I have a feeling once these start to show up in movie theaters, the buzz will really start to pick up. Though that actually makes me wonder... How many people out there don't yet know that Toy Story 3 is being made?

Thanks to Yahoo, Moviefone, ComingSoon, SlashFilm and MySpace for debuting each of these five posters.

Whedon's Cabin in the Woods Going 3D in '11

Posted on 17:00 by Unknown
ShockTillYouDrop.com is reporting that MGM Studios has decided to push Joss Whedon's anticipated horror flick The Cabin in the Woods , directed and co-written by Cloverfield 's Drew Goddard, back nearly a year, from its original release date of February 5, 2010 to the new date of January 14, 2011. Shock has learned exclusively that the reason MGM is doing this is because they're spending six months to covert the movie to 3D due to the phenomenal early response to the movie from test screenings, hoping to add another dimension to the horror.

There is nothing else scheduled for that date, which is the four-day weekend to celebrate the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr, although the fourth "Underworld" movie is currently scheduled to open one week later.

Raimi added that Gary Ross is doing a rewrite of the script using notes Raimi gave him, a production designer has started designing the sets and environments, and Scott Stokdyk is back on board on his fourth Spidey film as visual effects supervisor.

Raimi said that no casting has taken place--other than Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst--but that they are starting to think about that now.

Rumor: Ivan Reitman May Be Back to Direct Ghostbusters 3?

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
We stopped reporting on Ghostbusters 3 a while ago because every update was some bullshit rumor or a quote that wouldn't make any sense. However, our friends at Bloody-Disgusting (who always have reliable sources) have an interesting update on the project today that I just have to throw out. They say that Ivan Reitman, who directed the original two Ghostbusters movies, is attached to potentially direct Ghostbusters 3. "While he's attached, the word is that he hasn't decided whether or not he really wants to direct, yet." Not sure what that means exactly, probably that he's not 100% on-board, but this is still great to hear. Right?

They also say that Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Rick Moranis and Sigourney Weaver have all confirmed their involvement as well. And as for the storyline, here's what they've heard: "The sequel takes place when the paranormal researchers 'reopen' their ghost ...

Abrams, Kurtzman, and Orci on Big Ideas for a Star Trek Sequel

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
With less than three months left until 2010, I've started to think back over the movies I've seen this year. One that continually floats to the top in terms of being a movie that I just loved every minute of is J.J. Abrams' Star Trek. It may be odd to hear news about a sequel right now, but Paramount is doing a big promo for its DVD release, which is why J.J. Abrams and writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are out talking with press (via Collider). The sequel is just barely being developed, and even though they're still "just brainstorming," the ideas seem to be there, and the three each hint at what we might see in a sequel.

Although Kurtzman and Orci have answered the "sequel" question countless times already in regards to Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, they were asked again what makes great sequels so great. I ...

One filmmaker we haven't heard a lot from recently is Danny Boyle, which is unfortunate considering I love the guy and want to see him already working on another project. However, The Playlist claims to have figured out exactly what Boyle will be shooting next, a project we've already written about before. Boyle recently talked with Digital Spy about his "next movie" and apparently said it was everything but one single project (or so The Playlist thinks). That project being the one about the Utah mountain climber who had to amputate his own arm with a dull knife when it got pinned down by a boulder while hiking. Bring it!

Boyle confirmed that his next project won't be Bombay-set Maximum City, a sequel to Trainspotting (or the Porno adaptation), 28 Months Later, or My Fair Lady. Boyle goes on to say that he does know what his next project will be, ...

Official Poster Debuts for Peter Jackson's The Lovely Bones

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
Paramount has debuted the first official (teaser?) poster for Peter Jackson's The Lovely Bones on Yahoo. This highly anticipated adaptation stars Saoirse Ronan, Rachel Weisz, Mark Wahlberg, Susan Sarandon, and Stanley Tucci. Now this is a beautiful poster! But then again, I wouldn't expect anything less from Peter Jackson. I love the beautiful pastel colors, the lack of floating faces, a simple image with a tree and a girl running. Simple, but effective. I'm still very excited to see this movie, I've got high hopes for it, and I don't expect to be let down. I'm sure we'll see another trailer in the next few months as well. Take a look below!

If you haven't seen the first official trailer for The Lovely Bones yet, you can still watch it online right here.

The Lovely Bones is directed by Academy Award winning filmmaker Peter Jackson, of Heavenly Creatures, The Frighteners, the Lord ...

Ross is already writing Spider-Man 4 for the studio.

The site says that the studio had no comment on Ross writing the project and whether Topher Grace would reprise the role from the third film.

Avi Arad and Marvel are producing the movie.

Sony Wants Gary Ross to Write and Direct the Venom Movie

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
And who exactly is Gary Ross? Ross is a writer, producer, and director, who last directed Seabiscuit and Pleasantville before that. Those aren't exactly two movies that make me think he's overly qualified to bring one of the great supervillains to life, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have some tricks up his sleeves. THR's Heat Vision reports that Ross has been hired to write the Venom spin-off for Sony "as a potential directing vehicle." You might also remember that Ross was hired back in July to write the Spider-Man 4 script. They must really like his take on that and want the Venom movie to feel the same way so they hired him again.

Oddly, THR doesn't mention that Zombieland screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick wrote at least two drafts of Venom as well (they've talked about it a lot before). I'm guessing that Ross is working off of ...

Screenwriter Says The Flash Movie is Still Moving Forward!

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
Yesterday a report hit the web with quotes from The Dark Knight producer Charles Roven who had said that his rights to an adaptation of The Flash had been reeled in by the newly created DC Entertainment. They are pulling every comic book adaptation back in that isn't ready to go so that they can control the franchises a lot more closely. Roven had said that his version of The Flash really wasn't ready, so most fans thought this meant a Flash movie was dead again or at least not happening for a while. However, screenwriter Dan Mazeau contacted IGN yesterday and gave them a very positive update on the current status of The Flash.

"Just to chime in on your latest article: The Flash has not been hobbled. Everything is moving forward as planned," Mazeau explained. "I'm still writing the script. Geoff Johns is still consulting. Flash fans have no ...

First Official Trailer for Oren Moverman's The Messenger

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
Oscilloscope has just debuted the official trailer for The Messenger today on Apple, not to be confused with the Joan of Arc movie The Messenger or that horror movie The Messengers. I'm sorry but Iraq war movies, unless they're The Hurt Locker, are just boring to see nowadays. Hell, the concept in this is even the same exact concept as in Brothers -- well, they're close enough. And I have a feeling neither of them are going to make any money. They're both going to come and go quickly because most of us just don't want to see these kinds of movies anymore. So why are they still making them? I'm not sure. Check out the trailer.

The Flash Movie Rights Reeled Back into DC Entertainment

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
Barely a month ago, following Disney's purchase of Marvel, Warner Bros decided to create a new company called DC Entertainment Inc. that would "fully realize the power and value of the DC Comics brand and characters across all media and platforms." The new company would start reeling in projects that were in development with various producers so that they could develop them all under one house. We heard a few weeks later that there were no plans for Superman yet, but one franchise we haven't heard about recently is The Flash. IGN talked with producer Charles Roven and learned that his rights were recently reeled in, too.

Roven was one of the producers on The Dark Knight, so he knows his superheroes, and has been developing a Flash movie for a while. Most recently an update arrived in January saying a new script was being written.

"I was involved at one point ...

Exclusive: Will The Brazilian Job Ever Happen?

Posted on 17:00 by Unknown
ComingSoon.net just got off the phone with director F. Gary Gray, talking to him about his upcoming suspense thriller Law Abiding Citizen , starring Gerard Butler and Jamie Foxx, and though we didn't really have nearly as much time to talk about the movie as we needed, we did get to throw in a question about The Brazilian Job , the long-proposed sequel to his 2003 breakout hit The Italian Job .

Over the last few years, various actors who had appeared in that caper comedy--a remake of a 1969 British comedy starring Michael Caine, Noel Coward and Benny Hill--have been asked about the status of the sequel and whether they might be interested, but the responses were always rather vague and non-committal. The last time we heard about the project was when we spoke to producer Donald De...

Second Full French Trailer for Jacques Audiard's A Prophet

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
Although Sony Pictures Classics has been touring around the film festival circuit with A Prophet, they haven't otherwise started marketing it to the public. I've seen it twice now at two different festivals and it still is one of my favorite films of the entire year (read my review). After its debut at Cannes, we featured a very short teaser for the film. Now we have another full-length trailer (via Awards Daily), but unfortunately it's still only in French without English subtitles. A Prophet also just got accepted to AFI Fest in November, where I'm sure it'll gain even more Oscar buzz. Give this new trailer a shot even if you don't speak French.

Watch the second French trailer for Jacques Audiard's A Prophet:

A young Arab man named Malik El Djebena is sent to a French prison where he becomes a mafia kingpin.

Un Prophete, aka A Prophet in English, is directed ...

Kevin Smith Wants Wil Wheaton in His New Hockey Drama?

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
Back in May of this year, Kevin Smith revealed that he wants to make a hockey drama/comedy based on a song called "Hit Somebody (The Hockey Song)" by Warren Zevon (listen here). As time has passed since May, he's started to talk about it more and more in Q&As and online, and it may end up becoming his very next project following the buddy cop comedy A Couple of Dicks which he's now editing for Warner Brothers. Our friends at Collider recently dug up two updates on Hit Somebody, the first from a Huffington Post profile on Smith, the other from a random Twitter update from Smith as well. Read on for details on both!

In the Huffington Post feature, when asked about what's next, Smith said that while he's got other stuff in the works, "now I just want to make a hockey movie." Good news, because I want to ...

Check These Out: On Set Photos from the Red Dawn Remake

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
Be disturbed at not understanding. That's one of the phrases the Chinese are using to convince us that we weren't really free when we were run by a Democratic government before they invaded. A new blog called RedDawn2010.com has been following the Red Dawn remake very closely, which includes posting new photos from the set in Pontiac, MI (doubling as Spokane) as often as they can. In one of their galleries they have a few great photos of the set dressing in the small town where the film takes place. It shows all of the Chinese propaganda that was put up in the town as part of their invasion. Anyway, check out these photos!

Yes, if you didn't already known, in this Red Dawn remake the invading country is China, not Russia/Cuba, since it's a more realistic representation of the times. I don't have a problem with that, it makes sense, ...

Indie Trailer Sunday: John Woo's Red Cliff Official Trailer

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
Magnet debuted the official US trailer for John Woo's Red Cliff on Apple last week, which will finally (after two years) be hitting US theaters in November as part of the Six Shooter Film Series V2. We actually ran the very first teaser trailer for Red Cliff back in February of 2008, just to show you how long this film has been around. I still haven't seen it but I am looking forward to seeing it, just because looks so incredibly epic. As expected, this doesn't feature any dialogue, so as to not scare away Americans who hate subtitles. It does look pretty damn good, it may just be tough to sit through four hours of this. Will you be seeing this?

Watch the official US trailer for John Woo's Red Cliff:

Exclusive: Walton Goggins Fighting Predators ?

Posted on 17:00 by Unknown
Things have quietly been moving forward on Robert Rodriguez's Predators with Nimrod Antal directing. Although 20th Century Fox has already set a release date for July 7, 2010, there hasn't been much casting news except for the ubiquitous Danny Trejo as someone named "Cuchillo." That is, until now.

ComingSoon.net has heard word that one of Rodriguez's cast will be none other than Walton Goggins, star of the FX series "The Shield."

Unfortunately, we do not have any information yet on which role he might be playing, but we'll update the story as we receive confirmation. Either way, we can probably except there to be a lot more cast announced for the anticipated reboot in the coming weeks.

If you're a fan of "The Shield"--and seriously, who...

Exclusive: Olivia is Wilde About Tron !

Posted on 17:00 by Unknown
While in New York to discuss her new indie drama Fix , Olivia Wilde of Fox's hit show "House" gave us her thoughts on completing the long-awaited sequel Tron Legacy .

CS: Now that the shooting of "Tron Legacy" is complete, how do you feel about the experience?

Olivia Wilde: It was completely wild and amazing, and I really felt like I had given birth to a 19-pound baby when it was done. (laughs)

CS: How so?

Wilde: That it was, like, the most difficult thing I've ever done. We shot some 20-hour days, we were wearing the suits, which are not easy to wear. I was doing a lot of my own stunts and training a lot of the time. Really pushing myself physically as well as mentally. It was an epic undertaking. It was a HUGE film to shoot in those few days....

Brandon's Word: The Invention of Lying is a Landmark Comedy

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
Sometimes there are film premises, mere loglines, that cause me to clench my jaw and flush green with jealousy due to their brilliance. Usually, the premises' brilliance is born of its simplicity. And The invention of Lying is brilliant. And, on the surface, it is simple. The film takes place in an alternate world where humans have not evolved with the capacity to lie. Humans are incapable of saying anything that is not -- no matter how callous, inappropriate, or self-deprecating. That is, until Mark Bellison, played by the incomparable Ricky Gervais, tells humankind's first lie. Simple. Deceptively simple.

At first, The Invention of Lying plays out as a farce, using the simplicity of its plot to acclimate the audience to its parallel universe. Clever jabs at advertising, everyday social interactions, and a very cathartic helping of wish fulfillment (where characters, due to their inability to lie, say exactly what we ...

Watch This: Second and Final Saw VI Trailer Has Arrived!

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
A second, and presumably the last, trailer for Lionsgate's Saw VI has debuted on Yahoo tonight. I'll admit that I've still got a soft spot for the Saw movies; every year when each new one is released I go with my good friend and watch it. I've seen every one and I'll probably continue seeing them as long as they keep making them and putting them out in theaters. I wasn't excited for Saw VI until I saw this trailer - it looks intense and awesome, just like almost every other one previously and I can't wait to see what crazy traps and twists and turns they've cooked up for us this time. At least it's an improvement over the first teaser. Watch below!

Second Official Trailer for Martin Scorsese's Shutter Island

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
Paramount has debuted a second new trailer for Martin Scorsese's Shutter Island today on Apple. This new version features a few of the same scenes we'd seen in the original trailer plus plenty more we haven't seen yet. It also doesn't spoil any of the twists and turns anymore, thankfully. The only other major change is the release date - from October to February of next year (as we already reported). Despite all that, I still think this looks incredible. It's no B-rate thriller, this looks fantastic, like it could've been one of this year's best. I've got very high hopes for this, Scorsese is brilliant, and I expect nothing less for Shutter Island.

I really, really wish I could've been seeing this movie sometime this month, but damn them for moving it!

Goyer on His Ghost Rider 2 Script Plus a Magneto Update

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
Last week a new story hit about upcoming Marvel projects, including Daredevil, Silver Surfer, and a Ghost Rider sequel. In that story, it was revealed that Sony had decided to bring on writer/director David Goyer for Ghost Rider 2, since he had written a script 9 years ago for Ghost Rider that they were now going to use for the sequel. Collider recently talked with Goyer and learned that all of that was true and that they're going back to his script and only polishing it to tone it down from R to PG-13. He also gave a brief update on X-Men Origins: Magneto, another Goyer comic book project that's been in the works for a very long time.

"In the case of Ghost Rider... I wrote a script for that about 9 years ago, and Sony decided, and the producers, that they wanted to make that as the sequel script. ...

Wanna See Some Crazies ?

Posted on 17:00 by Unknown
Overture Films has revealed the trailer for The Crazies , directed by Breck Eisner. Starring Timothy Olyphant, Radha Mitchell, Danielle Panabaker and Joe Anderson, the horror film hits theaters on February 26.

You can check out the trailer in QuickTime formats here , while the official website has come online, as has a viral site for the town in the movie - Ogden Marsh.

The following is how the studio describes the reinvention of the George Romero classic:

David Dutton (Timothy Olyphant) is sheriff of Ogden Marsh, a picture-perfect American town with happy, law-abiding citizens. But one night, one of them comes to a school baseball game with a loaded shotgun, ready to kill. Another man burns down his own houseÂ…after locking his wife and young son in a closet inside....

Smit-McPhee, Moretz & Jenkins Cast in Let Me In

Posted on 17:00 by Unknown
Kodi Smit-McPhee, Chloe Moretz and Oscar-nominee Richard Jenkins will headline the cast of Let Me In , Matt Reeves' adaptation of Let the Right One In , when principal photography begins this fall in New Mexico. The announcement was made today by Hammer Films Co-CEO's Simon Oakes and Nigel Sinclair, as well as Overture Films CEO Chris McGurk and COO Danny Rosett.

Director Reeves ( Cloverfield ) has cast Smit-McPhee ( The Road ) and Moretz ( (500) Days of Summer ) in the two lead adolescent roles of Owen and Abby for the eagerly awaited horror feature. Jenkins will play the lead adult character known as Hakan in the original film.

Based on the bestselling Swedish novel, "Lat den Ratte Komma In," by Swedish author John Ajvide Lindqvist, Let Me In is a contemporary...

Smit-McPhee & Moretz Set for 'Let Me In' with Richard Jenkins

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
At least two of the casting rumors were right. THR's Heat Vision blog confirms today that The Road's Kodi Smit-McPhee (seen above) and Kick-Ass' Chloe Moretz have officially been cast in Let Me In, the Let the Right One In remake being directed by Cloverfield director Matt Reeves. Additionally, they announced that Oscar nominated actor Richard Jenkins (last seen in Burn After Reading) has been cast (instead of the rumored Philip Seymour Hoffman) as the vampire girl's father and caretaker known as Hakan in the original film. Shooting begins this fall in New Mexico (even though it's set in Colorado in the actual film).

Overture had been in talks with the rising "kid-actors" over the summer (we first reported a rumor about Smit-McPhee back in July) but was trying to work out the adult component (Jenkins) that best served the triangular combination, with an eye on scheduling and chemistry. Swedish producers ...

Quentin Tarantino Promises Kill Bill Vol. 3 Sometime Soon?

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
Can we trust Quentin Tarantino again? I mean, last year, at the Cannes Film Festival, he announced on a French talk show that he would be back the next year (as in this year) with Inglourious Basterds, a film which he had been talking about making for 10 years. And, as we all know, that actually happened (believe it or not), and he did show up at Cannes with Inglourious Basterds. Tarantino most recently appeared on an Italian TV show (via BadTaste.it) and made a promise just like that, but this time for Kill Bill Vol. 3. "The Bride will fight again," he revealed. When first asked if he'd do Kill Bill 3, his answer was an ecstatic "Yes!"

Tarantino also gave a "maybe" to a Basterds prequel, even though it's doing incredibly well at the box office, and a "no, it'll never happen" to a Pulp Fiction sequel. This isn't ...
