Sound Off: Do You Want to See Pixar Make Marvel Movies?

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
Being a Pixar fanboy myself, I keep getting into discussions today about Pixar's involvement in the big Disney-Marvel acquisition. Not only is the relationship between Disney and Pixar being referenced as an example of the kind of relationship that Marvel has with the Mouse House (as in, they still remain in creative control over their own company). But, of course, everyone is bringing up the possibility of seeing Pixar make Marvel movies. In fact, John Lasseter, who now works specifically at Disney (and not Pixar) supposedly met with Marvel last week and was jumping up and down and got "pretty excited, pretty fast."

I say no. Every last movie that Pixar has made so far, all 10 of them, have been completely original ideas. Their current line-up between now and 2013 includes two more original stories (Newt, The Bear and the Bow) and three sequels to their earlier original stories (Toy ...

First Look: Amanda Seyfried in Atom Egoyan's Drama 'Chloe'

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
The NY Times has yet another first look at an upcoming Toronto Film Festival film with a few new photos. Chloe is the latest film from director Atom Egoyan and is his "most emotionally direct and accessible work" since the The Sweet Hereafter. It stars Amanda Seyfried as Chloe, an escort that Catherine (Julianne Moore) hires to seduce her husband (Liam Neeson) and test his loyalty. As described by TIFF, it's a "highly entertaining, mind-bending tale of sexual jealousy in which appearances belie the truth â€" perhaps." And based on these photos and that synopsis, it's a film I'm already planning to see at the fest in a few weeks.

From the NY Times piece: "Chloe â€" which Mr. Egoyan describes as an 'erotic mystery' â€" is a star-studded break from form for him, the first of his features for which he has not written the screenplay." The script was written ...

Worth Watching: Visual Effects: 100 Years of Inspiration

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
I don't know a good way to introduce this. It's one of those great videos that you just need to watch simply based on the title alone. It's called Visual Effects: 100 Years of Inspiration - a "5th-grader-friendly" collection of clips and making-of footage from notable visual effects films of the past century. YouTube user bengraphics says it was "originally intended for educational use as an introduction to a classroom lecture." It's pretty damn awesome to see and will definitely be nostalgic for anyone that loves great visual effects. I first found it on Awards Daily but apparently it also came from Cinematical before that. Watch this now!

Ryan of Awards Daily puts it best: "It's a reminder of a simpler era when pulling a top hat out of a charcoal sketch was so pants-shittingly awesome genies had to wear adult diapers." It is also reminds me why I'm so excited ...

Guillermo del Toro Developing Adaption of DC's Deadman

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
Yet another new comic book adaptation in the works (not a surprise). Bloody-Disgusting is reporting that Guillermo del Toro is developing and producing an adaptation of the DC Comics character Deadman. Warner Brothers has apparently set Danish filmmaker Nikolaj Arcel, of Island of Lost Souls previously, to direct the Deadman movie. Not much else is known, except that it's being described as a Crow-esque thriller about a circus tightrope walker who is murdered and returns as a ghost with the ability to inhabit the bodies if others in order to find his killer. Thankfully this sounds like it'll be better than The Invisible.

Deadman first appeared in Strange Adventures #205 (in October 1967) and was created by Arnold Drake and Carmine Infantino. This is admittedly the first time I've even heard of this character, but he sounds like he has an intriguing story that could make for a great movie. Of ...

Green Hornet Pushed Back 5 Months

Posted on 17:00 by Unknown
Seth Rogen's movie based on the pulp and television hero The Green Hornet has been moved from its original date of July 7, 2010 to its new date of December 17, 2010 according to Box Office Mojo . No reason for the move was given but one can presumes it's to give the movie more time for post-production--principal photography hasn't begun yet--and to get it away from Robert Rodriguez's Predators relaunch. (Currently, Sony had set that date for the 3D Smurfs movie, which one assumes will be moved itself, since currently, it's up against Warner Bros' animated Yogi Bear movie.)

Must Buy: Badass Movie Shirts from Wake Up Time To Die

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
I'm a collector/connoisseur of great t-shirts, from movies to comics, or anything awesome. Whenever I'm at Comic-Con, I always pick up some shirts from Stylin' Online or Graffiti Designs. I also featured a few great movie-related shirts from mini cassette and Last Exit to Nowhere back in the day. I recently stumbled across another fantastic UK website called Wake Up Time To Die that sells some really badass movie t-shirts that I wanted to feature today. I love shirts that require a bit of geek knowledge to understand, like those that include a company name from a classic sci-fi (like Blade Runner or Alien) or something else like that.

I've featured a few of my favorite shirts below (as well as the Tron one above), but you can see the entire collection on their website: wakeuptimetodie.co.uk. Read on for how you can get 10% off your order!

Check This Out: The Adventures of Kung Pao Master Short

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
Love kung fu cinema? Then we have a short film for you! Our good friend Sean Dejecacion, who is part of the always hilarious Bob $tencil crew, created this short film for their local San Diego 48 Hour Film Project. It's called The Adventures of Kung Pao Master and it went on to win the Best Writing Jury Award and Audience Award at that film festival. Tristan, who produces all the Bob $tencil content (and is seen in this), told me to check out the short film and give it a shout out this weekend if I liked it. And, well, I liked it. It's pretty hilarious and the concept is simply that these guys are sitting around pitching a kung fu movie idea.

The 48 Hour Film Project is part of a franchise of film festivals that features films written, shot, and edited in a 48 hour time period (which ...

Worth Watching: Full Teaser Trailer for The Descent: Part 2

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
We haven't heard much about The Descent: Part 2 in a while, even though I know it was shown during Cannes as a marketplace screening. However, IGN has debuted the official teaser trailer for the film today and it looks pretty damn good. I'm not sure if that Warner Brothers logo at the beginning means this was picked up or if they're just putting it out in the UK or what (it's labeled as an "international trailer" anyway). We previously featured a longer promo trailer for The Descent: Part 2 back in February. This is a shorter version with less footage, but we still suggest you check it out. It doesn't actually look that bad, does it?

Watch the teaser trailer for The Descent: Part 2:

Distraught, confused, and half-wild with fear, Sarah Carter emerges alone from the cave system where she encountered unspeakable terrors. Unable to explain to authorities what happened ...

Check This Out: The $400 Million Club Box Office Graphic

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
You might've already seen this elsewhere, but I thought I might feature it today as well, as there is so much interesting information on here. This newest graph, or infographic, whatever you want to call it, comes from our friends at MovieFill.com - we've featured their graphs a few times before (here and here). It's called The $400 Million Club and it looks at the 9 movies in cinematic history (not considering inflation) to have crossed the $400 million mark at the domestic box office. As Anne Thompson points out: "It's a select club." And yet Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen made it on here with a 19% on Rotten Tomatoes? Go figure!

It's always great to see how Titanic and Star Wars and The Dark Knight (being #2) rank against each other, but there's more. How about the fact that out of the Shrek and Pirates of the Caribbean franchises, ...

Must Watch: Full-Length Trailer for Agora with Rachel Weisz

Posted on 17:13 by Unknown
We just discovered the full-length trailer on the beautiful official website for Alejandro Amenábar's Agora (thanks to reader Emurion) that played at the Cannes Film Festival (read my review) and is also showing up in Toronto next month. I'm still amazed that this film hasn't been picked up by a distributor, as it's a shoo-in for a production design Oscar, or at least worthy of winning a few technical awards. If you have the chance to see it, I suggest you do, it's a fascinating story and absolutely amazing to watch, as there is so much detail in the design work. The writing is a little bit rough and it's a long, two-part story, but overall I enjoyed it.

Michael Moore's Capitalism: A Love Story Gets a Nifty Poster

Posted on 17:13 by Unknown
Overture has unveiled the poster for Michael Moore's new documentary Capitalism: A Love Story over on Fandango today. We featured the full theatrical trailer for this doc exactly a week ago. Fandango says it kind of looks like a Saul Bass-style poster, but I wouldn't say that, it just looks like some simple modern vector art. Though it still does look good and I prefer this design much more over plenty of the ugly floating head posters these days. And compared to the poster for Sicko, Michael Moore himself is only featured in the corner this time. At least that might help minimize all the hate he gets on a normal basis. Anyway, enjoy!

This opens early in NY and LA only on September 23rd before later opening nationwide on October 2nd.

Brand New Japanese Trailer for Roland Emmerich's 2012

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
Don't you just love Roland Emmerich? Nothing like watching death and destruction on a massive, global scale. Sony has debuted a Japanese trailer for 2012 on its official website that can also be seen below. It's a bit of a change from the first full-length trailer for 2012 with a bit of new footage and a different editing style, but it still looks exciting, epic, and - as only Roland Emmerich can deliver - absolutely ridiculous. I'm inherently excited for this, even if it is stupid that their car or airplane is being chased by an earthquake or volcano, but that's what makes this pure escapist fun. Maybe it's just me, but I'm looking forward to this!

Emile Hirsch on What to Expect in His New Hamlet Movie

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
Last week we ran an update on the upcoming slate for director Catherine Hardwicke. One of the projects she has in the works, which may be shooting soon, is a contemporary version of Shakespeare's Hamlet that is set to star Emile Hirsch (first written about here). Our friends at Collider talked with Hirsch recently, who not only confirmed that he's supposed to start shooting in October, but divulged some interesting details on what we can expect. "It's almost like mixing Hamlet with The Shining a little bit and making this kind of scary/cool vision of the play." Well damn, I already prefer this version over that Shakespeare 4 Kidz crap.

"I'm working on a modern-day younger adaptation of Hamlet, in verse, molded to be almost like this supernatural horror movie. Where it's not a horror-slasher movie, it's like a suspense-horror... All the cast will be much younger and it's geared towards ...

Tarantino's Basterds Dominate World Box Office

Posted on 17:00 by Unknown
The ComingSoon.net Box Office Report has been updated with studio estimates for the weekend. Click here for the full box office estimates of the top 12 films and then check back on Monday for the final figures based on actual box office.

Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds dominated the weekend box office, earning an estimated $37.6 million domestically and $27.5 million internationally for a worldwide debut of $65.1 million. It's the biggest Tarantino opening ever at the domestic box office, beating Kill Bill Vol. 2 's $25.1 million in 2004. "Basterds," which cost about $70 million to make, provided a much-needed boost for struggling domestic distributor The Weinstein Company, which co-financed the film with international distributor Universal Pictures.

Simon Pegg Cast in John Landis' New Film 'Burke and Hare'

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
Yep, we're talking about Animal House and Blues Brothers director John Landis. Dread Central is reporting that Simon Pegg has joined the cast of a new film John Landis is directing about the completely sinister tale of Burke and Hare. The Burke and Hare murders, also known as the West Port murders, were serial murders perpetrated in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1827 and 1828. The killings were attributed to Irish immigrants William Burke and William Hare, who sold the corpses of their 17 victims to the Edinburgh Medical College for dissection. Sounds pretty grotesque and perfect for both John Landis and Simon Pegg.

Landis has most recently been directing episodes of "Psych", so its good to see him back on a feature. This is apparently confirmed news, as Dread spoke to Landis himself at the Monster-Mania Convention in New Jersey this weekend. I'm looking forward to seeing Landis back and seeing Pegg ...

David Fincher's Social Network Movie Gets a Greenlight

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
What did I tell ya! The End of Show blog (via SlashFilm) is reporting as of yesterday that David Fincher's The Social Network has been given the greenlight from Columbia Pictures and will start shooting this year, as I speculated earlier this month. They're reporting that its been given a $47 million budget and will start production in October. Fincher's deal to direct has been signed and Scott Rudin, Kevin Spacey and Dana Brunetti are producing. They are currently working on casting at the moment and scouting shooting locations in Cambridge and Boston. I'm sure we'll be hearing a lot more about this production very soon.

Who knows if that budget number is accurate, but if it is, it's a step down from his last few films, which is probably the better way to go this time. Benjamin Button cost $150M, Zodiac cost $65M, Panic Room cost $48M, and Fight Club ...

Sherlock Holmes Viral Has Been Around Since Comic-Con?

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
A few days ago we ran an article looking at a new viral marketing game for Sherlock Holmes. I wrote that "Warner Brothers has kicked off their viral" with a website located at 94.236.57.221 that essentially was a glorified sign-up form. It turns out, thanks to some updates from our good friends at MovieViral.com and Unfiction, that this viral has actually been around since Comic-Con, remarkably. It looks like Warner Bros' attempted to kick it off at the Con failed. The only reason its gaining traction now is because @wbpictures tweeted it out and I was told by others to check it out. Oh and some other websites got cards in the mail.

That IP address was actually discovered via two uniques cards that were given out at Comic-Con. From the Unfiction forums: "At Comic-Con - I picked up from the WB booth two cards. Immediately I noticed they should be ...

First Fan Reactions from Avatar Day - What Did You Think?

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
I have so much to say, so much to talk about regarding James Cameron's Avatar, that I don't even know where to start. But I guess I'll kick off with this video that Brandon and I shot yesterday during Avatar Day. Both of us attended the 6PM screening of footage for Avatar Day at one of the best IMAX theaters in Los Angeles. We interviewed a few groups of people before and after seeing the footage and asked them their thoughts on Avatar, both positive and negative. Interestingly, we have a mix of good and bad, in order to try and get the most well-rounded set of opinions. But we also want to know what you thought about it, too!

In regards to the video below, we couldn't find everyone we interviewed before the footage, so we did our best to find a variety of groups after, even if we hadn't ...

Official Trailer for Michael Cera's Youth in Revolt Arrives

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
The Weinstein Company has debuted the first trailer for Michael Cera's Youth in Revolt today on AOL. The movie is about a teenage kid who falls in a love with a girl he can't have but decides to go to lengths to win over her heart. I was going to complain about how tired I am of seeing Michael Cera act the same damn way in every movie, but thought otherwise after he introduces his "supplementary persona named Francois Dillinger." I'm probably going to get some flack for this, but I love that character. It looks like Cera really can act and that other persona just looks hilarious. I was actually laughing out loud during this. Enjoy!

Brandon's Word: Inglourious Basterds is a Masterpiece

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
More often than not, Quentin Tarantino is like a very able boxer who throws the same punch time after time. After the first, second, and third haymaker -- one can predict what the fourth and fifth and sixth will be. As an opponent of Tarantino's, I thought I had him and his latest film, the WWII-set Inglourious Basterds, pegged as just that -- another wild haymaker. But just another haymaker it is not. Inglourious Basterds is, instead, a precise jab to the nose, a swift uppercut to the chin, and a brain-rattling hook to the jaw. It's Quentin Tarantino's knockout punch. And it lands hard. Read on for Brandon's review!

Before I continue, however, let me put what is to be a very positive review into some context. I've seen all of Tarantino's directorial work. I admire Reservoir Dogs and adore Pulp Fiction. I respect Jackie Brown, understand Kill Bill, and ...

Full-Length Trailer for Michael Moore's Capitalism: A Love Story

Posted on 16:02 by Unknown
And you thought there were no more trailers today! CNN has debuted the first full-length trailer for Michael Moore's new documentary Capitalism: A Love Story. We featured the first interactive teaser back in June, but unlike that one, this has actual footage from the doc. Being a Moore fan, I've got to say this looks as awesome, hilarious, and controversial as any of his previous films. This time, Moore tackles Wall Street and our economy. I'm not so sure I like his use of all the cheerful 50's style footage, but I do love his not-so-subtle use of MIA's "Paper Planes." Please try and keep all comments about the film itself and not politics.

Badass Blue Screen Photo from Scott Pilgrim vs. the World

Posted on 16:02 by Unknown
We haven't seen much from Scott Pilgrim vs. the World or even talked about it much recently. That's because its been shooting for a while and Universal decided not to fly us up to the set. But no biggie, I'm still very excited for it, anxiously awaiting a trailer. Edgar Wright has been keeping up with the daily photo blog and just posted another new photo today that you just have to see. It doesn't show anything that we haven't seen before, per se, but it is an awesome shot of a floating bass player rigged up to some contraption in a blue screen room. Is there going to be some weird psychadelic floating rock moments in this? I hope so!

That definitely looks like Michael Cera, who plays Scott Pilgrim himself, rigged up to that rotating unit. In the comics, Ramona V. Flowers uses some supernatural subspace portals to travel ...

Interview: Inglourious Basterds' Donny Donowitz - Eli Roth

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
Who would've thought that the director of Hostel would go on to star as the unforgettable "Bear Jew" in Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds? Not only did it happen, but he kicks ass in the role. Last week I sat down with Eli Roth to talk about his work in Basterds, what it's like acting, what he's learned from working with Tarantino, and if he's getting offers for more roles (and if he'll even take them). A lot of people have a grudge against Roth (or just don't like him), but he's not a bad guy and I enjoyed talking with him. So without further ado, read on for my full interview with Sgt. Donny Donowitz aka The Bear Jew himself.

Did you ever think you'd get into acting considering your career so far has been filmmaking and directing?

Eli Roth: No, I mean I always enjoyed acting and it was always fun, ...

Mad Men's Jon Hamm Also Joins the Sucker Punch Cast

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
Zack Snyder certainly had his fair share of problems early on wrangling a cast for his latest project Sucker Punch. Amanda Seyfried was supposed to play the lead Baby Doll, then dropped out only to be replaced later by Emily Browning and not long after that both Emma Stone and Evan Rachel Wood left the project due to "scheduling conflicts." Now THR tells us that a bit of good fortune has finally been sent Snyder's way in the form of "Mad Men" actor Jon Hamm being the first male to join the, thus far, all-female cast that also includes Abbie Cornish, Vanessa Hudgens, Jamie Chung, Jena Malone and Carla Gugino most recently.

While we know Hamm's character goes by the awesome name High Roller, all other details are being kept under tight wraps. And it's not easy to figure out what his role might entail with a movie described ...

Shoot 'Em Up's Michael Davis Directing an Outland Remake

Posted on 03:56 by Unknown
Warner Brothers and Hollywood Gang Productions, lead by Gianni Nunnari, are developing a remake of the 1981 Sean Connery sci-fi movie Outland that was written and directed by Peter Hyams. Shoot 'Em Up director Michael Davis has been hired to direct, while newcomer Chad St. John will write the screenplay. The drama revolves around a police marshal stationed at a remote mining colony on Jupiter's moon Io, where he uncovers a murderous conspiracy threatening the entire Outland with collapse. "We're staying true to the thematic heart of Outland while expanding the space frontier concept," Davis said of the remake.

"We loved the original sci-fi film with Sean Connery," Nunnari told Variety. "At its core, Outland is a version of High Noon in outer space, as two courageous people take a stand against a gang of ruthless conspirators at the highest level." The new take will expand upon the original concept, making ...

Darren Bousman Picks Jaime King to Lead Mother's Day Cast

Posted on 03:55 by Unknown
Darren Lynn Bousman has chosen a cast for his Mother's Day remake, which starts shooting next month in Winnipeg. Sin City actress Jaime King has joined the cast as the "woman of the house" with X-Men's Shawn Ashmore and Sorority Row's Briana Evigan as her guests. Charles Kaufman's original 1980 Troma cult classic revolved around three friends who run afoul of two brothers who engage in murder and rape to impress their deranged mother. The new version is being remolded as a psychological thriller in which the wicked family returns to the house where they grew up to terrorize the new owners and guests.

"What we're trying to do is elevate this outside of a genre movie," Bousman said. "I've done three Saw films, I've done Repo, and yes, this is horrific at times, but it's much darker and deeper because of the focus on the characters." As mentioned before, King ...

Shoot 'Em Up's Michael Davis Directing an Outland Remake

Posted on 03:51 by Unknown

The film begins in German-occupied France, where Shosanna Dreyfus (Laurent) witnesses the execution of her family at the hand of Nazi Colonel Hans Landa (Waltz). Shosanna narrowly escapes and flees to Paris, where she forges a new identity as the owner and operator of a cinema.

Hobbit Rumors: Radcliffe Says No Way, Three Movies in 3D?

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
We'll probably be hearing a lot of rumors about The Hobbit for the next few years, but we'll be here to try and decipher the truth from the bullsh*t. The first bit of news is not actually a rumor, but a confirmation from Daniel Radcliffe himself (via Hero Complex) that he won't be in The Hobbit. "I'd have to say, 'Thanks but no thanks,' not that anyone has asked me," he says. "Whatever I do next, I don't think there will be any wizards in it!" Now the rumor side of this is with Radcliffe out, that still leaves James McAvoy and David Tennant still in the running to play Bilbo, at least according to this LA Times article from July, right?

Another juicy rumor that popped up today comes from MarketSaw, a blog run by longtime 3D supporter Jim Dorey. He says that a "trusted source" has told him that ...

First Look: Ryan Reynolds in His One-Man Thriller Buried

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
Before Ryan Reynolds goes on to play Hal Jordan in the Green Lantern movie and Wade Wilson (again) in the Deadpool spin-off, he'll finish shooting an indie thriller called Buried that he decided to take on to challenge his acting skills. We talked about the project a few times earlier this year, mainly because it was discovered that this is actually a one-man show, taking place entirely inside the confines of coffin, where Reynolds awakens buried alive. Thanks to Twitch we have two photos from the indie production, one of Reynolds (above) talking with Spanish director Rodrigo Cortés, and one of the actual view inside the coffin.

I actually read the script for Buried a month or so back, even though I didn't want to, but I started and just couldn't stop. It's an intense thriller or drama or whatever you want to call it, and it literally does take place ...

Lionsgate Distributing Matthew Vaughn's Kick-Ass in 2010

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
Matthew Vaughn's highly anticipated adaptation of Mark Millar's comic book series Kick-Ass finally has a distributor. Lionsgate has acquired US and Canadian distribution rights for Kick-Ass and will releasing it wide sometime in 2010. Vaughn funded and produced the adaptation entirely on his own, outside of the studio system, and unveiled the first bit of footage to fans at Comic-Con back in July. The buzz was so strong coming out of the Con, that Lionsgate got into a bidding war with Paramount and Universal, but the rights ended up going to Lionsgate in the end. Can't wait to see this hit theaters in all of its bloody, brilliant glory!

"Making and financing Kick-Ass has been an amazing experience, and we've had two important goals from the start: make a singularly entertaining film and find the right studio to release it. With Lionsgate, I know that I've got a supportive and fearless ...

Bobcat Goldthwait Making a Musical Based on a Kinks Album

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
I hope everyone knows who Bobcat Goldthwait, the Police Academy turned filmmaker who is responsible for one this year's finest dark comedies, World's Greatest Dad. That film is the third feature that Bobcat has directed, and considering the great response its received since premiering at Sundance earlier this year, I think we can expect Bobcat to continue directing more films, even if this doesn't prove to be a big hit at the box office. In looking forward to what's next, Bobcat recently told CHUD that he's working on a "spree killer script" first and then planning to do a musical based on the Kinks album called Schoolboys in Disgrace.

It seems a bit odd to make a musical like this, but then again, the Kinks were apparently "writing full-tilt rock operas" when Schoolboys in Disgrace came out in 1975. The Kinks are an English rock band probably best known for their ...

Cameron Talks About Inspirations and the Themes in Avatar

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
In preparation for Avatar Day this Friday, I've been reading through the interview that Geoff Boucher of Hero Complex did with James Cameron last week. At least 6500 people have seen footage from Avatar, but the rest of the world is still waiting for their first glimpse, which arrives on Thursday with a trailer and on Friday with 16 minutes of footage. Now that we know what it looks like, it's time to delve deeper into the story. "I think I veer toward classicism, being solidly rooted in the classic stuff. I mean really old-school science fiction. This is a movie I would have loved to have seen when I was a 14-year-old kid in 1968."

For those who still don't really know what Avatar is about, it's being compared to Kevin Costner's Dances with Wolves, in the way that Jake Sully (Sam Worthingon's character) starts to feel sympathy towards this ...

Worth Watching - Aug 15: Oliver Parker's Dorian Gray Teaser

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
I've received numerous emails about this film, so I wanted to feature it this weekend. Dorian Gray is an adaptation of Oscar Wilde's 1890 novel The Picture of Dorian Gray that stars Ben Barnes as the titular character. At first I thought, for some odd reason, this was some throwaway fantasy film that was grasping for attention when it should be going straight-to-DVD, but I was wrong about that. STYD debuted a trailer for it during Comic-Con (which I've included below) and our friends at Empire recently debuted a rather eye-catching poster (which you see a piece of above). It actually looks pretty damn good, so check it out!

Watch the teaser trailer for Oliver Parker's Dorian Gray:

Story centers on Gray, a corrupt young man who becomes the subject of a painting. As the man descends into a hedonistic lifestyle, the portrait begins to age and morph, but he is able ...

Little Fockers Starts Casting!

Posted on 17:00 by Unknown
Even though screenwriter/director John Hamburg didn't have much he could tell us about the comedy threequel Little Fockers when we spoke to him a few weeks back, including whether it might start shooting soon, director Paul Weitz and Universal are certainly moving full steam ahead it seems.

The blog Spoiler TV has gotten their hands on a casting call that includes five auxiliary characters for the movie, most of them with only a few lines, and a description of some of the things that take place in the movie involving them.

The "Henry" mentioned might be one of the twins had by Ben Stiller's Greg Focker with Teri Polo's Pam, and the fact they're casting a Russian girlfriend for Owen Wilson's Kevin confirms that he is indeed coming back as previously reported....

Sound Off: Neill Blomkamp's District 9 - Your Thoughts?

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
Now that you've seen it, what did you think? After a year in the making (read my retrospective), it's finally arrived in theaters today - Neill Blomkamp's District 9. Does it live up to all of the hype? Does it live up to your expectations from the trailers? Is it one of the best sci-fi films of the year? How does the story hold up? Was the action exciting? Or was it one of the worst sci-fi films of the year? Was the CGI painful to watch? Was it an overdone, over-hyped waste of time? And most importantly, what did you think about the way it ended? Sound off below, leave your thoughts, and let us know what you thought of District 9!

To fuel the fire, I frickin' loved this movie. It is, hands down, one of the very best sci-fi films in a long time (not just this year). ...

Universal Wants Robert Downey Jr. as Their New Lestat?

Posted on 16:00 by Unknown
Yep, we're talking about the vampire Lestat de Lioncourt, the French noblemen who was made into a vampire in the 18th century. Bloody-Disgusting is reporting that Universal is developing another adaptation of Anne Rice's The Vampire Chronicles, to continue on that franchise that first hit the big screen back in 1994 with Interview with the Vampire. They don't have any details on what's going on with the reboot or which Anne Rice novel(s) they're going to be drawing from, but they do say that Robert Downey Jr. is in "close talks" to play the vampire Lestat. Thanks to Twilight, we're really in the thick of vampire mania now.

Lestat de Lioncourt is a fictional vampire and the main character in the majority of Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles novels, which are narrated in first person. Lestat was first portrayed on screen by Tom Cruise in Neil Jordan's Interview with the Vampire and ...
